Originally the French answer to glamorous Swiss St Moritz, but these days better thought of as the classy alternative to France’s own, rather vulgar, Courchevel. It has little (other than money and extensive slopes) in common with either: it’s low, prettily wooded, easily accessible, charmingly traditional.
And the key flaws?
Modernisation of the lifts is a slow ongoing process. Fragmented ski area. Few challenging pistes.
