The low, rural, chalet-style option (a sharp contrast to next-door Avoriaz in every way) on the French side of the huge Portes du Soleil circuit that spreads across the Swiss border to Champéry. Plenty of lively bars, restaurants and affordable, traditional hotels.

And the key flaws?

Expect to drive or ride buses to the lifts (though there are some convenient lodging options, but few).
